If I accidentally delete you email me johndodd@centurylink.net It would help if you say something about yourself on your profile page. • John Dodd John Dodd

The biggest problem we have when a person joins our site is the Computer generated password. It don’t always work. If new members can’t get the pass to work email me johndodd@centurylink.net and I’ll give you another. You can go into your profile page and change it. It won’t be computer generated, but will be made by a real person that speaks english (adding some humor here).

Sometimes people have problems viewing pictures in the photo gallery. We never anticipated that we would have 15,000 plus pictures on the site. When you click or go to the gallery the site has to download a lot of data before the pictures will show.It could take several minutes depending on your internet speed. If you have dial-up even longer time is needed. Sometimes your security settings may be the problem or internet explorer/ internet properties advanced setting multimedia shoe pictures may have to be checked, but this rarely happens unless it’s a new computer. I’ll try and help when I can, but my computer knowledge is limited. TRUCK ON guys… johndodd@centurylink.net

Sometimes I may delete a new member. We have a couple hundred people wanting to join and post advertisements on the site each day. I delete them, because we don’t allow ads unless it is a member that wants to sell T-shirts to raise funds for fuel for guntrucks or such. Some times I don’t see legit members and hit the delete button. If your profile or howdy name disappears you may have to join again. Sorry for the inconvenience.
If anyone wants pictures posted and can’ get them on the site, email them to me and I can put them on for you..

    • ramjet

Good to hear from you man, I just spent my lunch time looking at the pictures and only seen one of our truck with Geauga Lake Ohio on it, I have pictures at home that I will need to get on here with some help from somebody that knows how to do it. Remember when we ran the two gooks on a motor bike off the of the road going down the mountain pass, they were separating us from the Convoy, u wanted to shoot them. Yea running that gun truck was great, I can remember the fist time we got ambushed, the ten ton in front of us hauling the Earth moving cab and they hit his front tire with a missile. Remember the guy that got transferred from the Infantry outfit to us and blew his brains out? ( TOO MUCH RUM FOR HIM ). Had some good times man. I`d love to get together some time, could spend days talking. I just found this site yesterday and was a little apprehensive. Were do you and Joe live? I`m not in Geauga Lake any more, a few miles away though.

  • BOB aka Rat COWLEY

    ramjet, still in Geauga lake

  • BOB aka Rat COWLEY

Hey joe aka chopper, remember Roger Dillie. he just joined the site, look for Ramjet

  • BOB aka Rat COWLEY

With my Wife’s help, I added another photo of us…check it out. Remember when you were leaving, I went to Cam Ranh Bay with you…the fight!?
I am still in NJ…would love to talk more…call me whenever…732-915-8767.

    • ramjet

Nice picture, cool. Are u talking about the fight in Cam Rahn ? That was when we were there on a convoy. Then I got dropped off in Da Lat I think to go to the hospital in Cam Rahn, could not get on a flight after a couple of days I started leaking pus out of my face, squeezed it out in their latrine and caught the next convoy back to Dillard I caught a ride with a Transportation convoy when I left country. As it turns out, some guy I new from another town here was a driver in that outfit and was in that convoy. Small world sometimes Are u retired yet?

  • BOB aka Rat COWLEY

By your lunch comment your working I guess, I,m retired now, that,s how I started this computer stuff.trust me,when you don,t work any more, you tend to go alittle nuts.maybe we can get together.like you we could talk for days

  • BOB aka Rat COWLEY

All I remember is getting hit over the head with a bottle, next day went for stiches,we were both a mess long for the good old days.hey remember the bus with no windows,I stepped to the back of the truck and yelled dillie get closer

  • ramjet

Yes, still working. About another year and a half. Will be 65 Dec. 5 next year. Maybe we can meet halfway in Pa. for one night or something. Were is Joe at? Who was the other gunner?

  • BOB aka Rat COWLEY

Joe I think was from PA.touched base with him ounce couple of weeks ago ,asked if he was still in PA, haven,t heard from since.I LEFT NAM MARCH 30 71 .last guy I remember on the other 60 was webb tall affro amer. guy. about YOU, MARRIED,KIDS. I have a 21 yr old grand daughter living in wisc.1 daughter.be 65 infeb.Man there,s just so much to talk about.about getting together hell yeah.

  • BOB aka Rat COWLEY

OH bye it wasen,t a missle, it was a R.P.G. Did you take that ride with O.D. warent officer when we got the call about the convoy that was ambushed.if you do ,you drove like a manicac to get there, but we were to late

  • ramjet

Then u left about the same time as me, I was delayed a little because of TET, I don`t remember what day. I might look at DD14 see if it is on there. For some reason I have never remembered the other guy. Have a girl 32, married & just had a girl, first grandchild. Son is about to turn 30,not married, no kids. Time for me to scoot man, will get back to you tomorrow. Really great to hear from you man.

  • ramjet

Hey Rat! Wake up. I don’t remember if I went on that run or not. I did not know they had RPG`s back then. I remember driving like a maniac when we used to escort those guys back to ARVN base down the road from us, they used to make the run to Da Lat with our convoy about once a week I think. Remember us doing that?

  • BOB aka Rat COWLEY

Yeah we did the Dalat run at least twice a month.I,m up by 6 am the latest .the guy who blew his brains out in my tent we called rich, his last name was Richards.have to run have my brothers coming over for BBQ,

  • BOB aka Rat COWLEY

I,m back, have A couple minutes, Were You in country when I got burned? Do you remember Puff was Hot buttered soul? catch you later. RAT

  • ramjet

Top of the Morning to ya RAT, Well Labor Day is over & heading into Fall Now. I do not remember u getting burned and no recollection of Hot Buttered Soul. Tell me about it, other than seeing it on web sites. No word from Joe yet? I don`t remember an Afro-American guy being on the Truck neither. I have Pictures that show u, Joe and a third guy, can`t put a name to him though. Have a bunch of pictures, probably over a hundred, will try to get the ones pertaining to us and the Gun Truck on this site soon. Pictures of a lot of people and the Camp, scenery pictures of when we were on the road. Were are u at in Jersey? I spent 7 weeks in a town called Exton, Pa., close to Philly back in 2005. My employer bought a Co. from there and we brought everything back to Ohio. There is a guy that worked for that Co.,that was in Nam as well. He lives in Jersey some where. We can do our regular chit chatting thru Emails and get off this sit for that kind of stuff if u think we should.

  • ramjet

I see Possum70 and mad815 were there the same time during 70 and 71 on Gun Trucks as well.

  • John Dodd John Dodd

Maybe Czyzyk also, He was on Puff I think. I think Joe Amann was in B co. 71/72.

  • BOB aka Rat COWLEY

Dillie,if you dig out your DD214,then we can put dates, events, places and faces together. I REMEMBER ALOT OF STUFF,but without that info it,s all jumbled. pictures would help too.Ithink you left nam feb 71.

  • BOB aka Rat COWLEY

John Dodd,I can,t thank you enough for all your help, getting on this site, I could not have connected with guys I wondered about all these years

  • ramjet

Hello guys, This past week is the only time I had come across this site, I think. I had looked around some in the years past, but never logged on any sites. One time I found a site and typed in my name and Viet Nam Gun Trucks and our Truck popped up with Joe standing in front of it with my name, and I said to myself that I should try to find a way to rectify that. But I did not. I sent John some Pictures to post. I also sent to Joe, I think he is in Ohio too. Waiting on a reply. How was your BBQ Rat?

  • BOB aka Rat COWLEY

  • flippy flippy

Thanks for the welcome home. Came upon this site looking for anything on my unit, 363rd TC and saw the 50 Gunner Messages. I was a 5 ton tractor driver when I first got to Red Beach. We had no support whatsoever. Two of us approached the CO (think that was a CP Sinott?) and ask if we could put together a convoy support vehicle. He gave us the green light but said we had to do it on our own time. We put some armor plating on the sides of a deuce and a half. We tried to mount a 50 on it but couldn’t keep it bolted to the floor when firing it. Ended up with 2 60’s, some m14’s, and a couple of m79’s with lots of ammo.Wasn’t much but gave the drivers a little sense of security. I ended up on the back of the gun truck.Ther were 3 of us on the back, me, a man who went by JJ and I can’t remember the other man’s name. “Don’t mean nothin”. Flippy

  • John Dodd John Dodd

We welcome Mike Little (roadrunner1) to our site. Mike was with B Co 504 MP Bn, Pleiku 67/68. He ran on Hwy 14 until 4th Div took over, then Hwy 19. WELCOME HOME.

  • roadrunner1 roadrunner1

Thanks for letting me join your site! As an MP Roadrunner, I had the highest respect for the truck drivers who ventured out on hwy 19 every day, and I was most thankful for the convoy’s security team, the gun trucks! Everybody out there had more firepower than us (armor, choppers, jets, you guys), we only survived because of you…and good radio contact!
As only a Spec-4, I ran hwy 19 (Pleiku east to the Mang Yang) for about 4 months at the end of my tour; usually a sergeant was assigned the number one slot, but we must have run out of E-5’s. I was lucky…I befriended a number of Montagnard children during this time, and in 1994, I went back to VN and was reunited with them and their families. My wife and I have gone back many times since then to visit them…so if anyone has questions or interest in visiting VN today, we’d be happy to help. Nothing is the same, but old hwy 19 is still 2 lanes, and I remember every curve.
